At Record Packaging Systems, we believe that our customers should have access to all the information that they need in order to choose the best machines for their business — not only do we offer expert advice at every step of the process, but we also provide accessible guides to every type of machinery that we sell. Read on for our guide to flow wrapping (with more information available here)!
This refers to the movement of the jaws inside the flow wrapping machine that seal the film shut around the product. In a box motion flow wrapper, the jaws move in a straight line as the film flows. This means that the jaws dwell for longer on the film, creating a high-quality seal with a secure internal environment.
Standing for Horizontal Form Fill Seal, HFFS is a type of flow wrapping that fills packaging in a horizontal orientation. It is an extremely rapid process, making it ideal for high-volume projects or businesses requiring short turnaround time.
Modified Atmosphere Packaging, or MAP, is a process in which the environment inside a sealed packet is altered to prolong the life of the product, utilising a customised mixture of gases.
Allowing for easier upgrades and maintenance, our flow wrapping machines are built using a highly customisable modular design.
Unlike most traditional flow wrapping films, which are made from multiple layers of different materials (making recycling them difficult or impossible), mono film is made of a single material and thus can be easily recycled.
This also refers to the movement of the sealing jaws inside the flow wrapping machine. In a rotary motion flow wrapper, the jaws continuously rotate, offering higher speeds and the ability to cope with high volumes of production.
Vertical Form Fill Seal is the other method of flow wrapping, working with gravity to fill each package. It creates minimal waste, making it an efficient and economical packaging option, but it is not as fast as the horizontal alternative.
