In recent years, the meat and poultry packaging industry has experienced a significant shift in consumer preferences and sustainability concerns. One of the most significant trends is the move towards eco-friendly and sustainable packaging materials, such as biodegradable and compostable options. Consumers are also demanding packaging that provides transparency and clear information about the product’s source, nutritional information, and sustainability credentials. Another trend is the rise of convenience packaging, such as portion-controlled and ready-to-cook products, which appeal to time-poor consumers. It eliminates or reduces the need for extensive preparation, cooking, or portioning, making it particularly appealing to those with busy schedules.
Our DCF polyolefin shrink film is perfect for MAP packaging of fresh products like meat and chicken. Unlike standard stretch-shrink film, our DCF film ensures no liquid leakage, reducing contamination risks and preventing the spread of bacteria, thus minimising waste and spoilage. Our suppliers are BRC accreddited and we can offer very competitive prices against the likes of Bollere and Cryovac alternatives.
In 2008 Record UK introduced our Record flow wrappers into the chicken market. With the introduction of a dual section flow wrapper that could switch between both Polyolefion and OSF(PET) ovenable film. This machine was designed with special backseal roller units that would switch depening on the film required. For Shrink a reduced crimp bead seal backseal roller is required due to the films sensitivity to heat. To much heat and surface contact causes the film to shrink and melt during as it travels through the backseal rollers. Ovenable film similarly seals at a low tempature and requires reduced film tension due to brittle propeties of PET. Due to the unique characteristcs of both these packaging films the machine is designed specifically to reduce the need for two machines developed to do the same time.
Thermoforming films are commonly used in the meat and poultry industry to create packaging that is both visually appealing and functional. These films are made of thermoplastic polymers that can be heated and formed into a specific shape or size. Thermoforming films are ideal for creating packaging for meat and poultry products, as they can be designed to meet specific product requirements, such as shape, size, and thickness. This type of packaging is typically used for products that require extended shelf life, such as processed meats, sausages, and cold cuts. Thermoforming films provide an airtight seal that helps to preserve the product’s freshness, flavour, and nutritional value, while also protecting it from contamination and external factors such as oxygen and moisture. Additionally, thermoforming films offer excellent clarity, allowing consumers to see the product inside, and can be customized with branding and labelling to improve the product’s shelf appeal.
This method is used for Flow Wrapped mincemeat which reduces the amount of Film being used by 70%. It is also used for packaging whole chickens in a Cook In Bag which is a Fully PET bag for the chicken industry. At Record we developed the first machine which could pack chicken using both Polyolefin and PET bags.
This method is used in the frozen meat market. It is popularly used for packaging items such as frozen chicken or meat-based pet foods.
Along with Tray Sealing this represents the most popular method of packaging meat produce in the Irish and UK market. This is because of its hermetic seals and compatibility with Oxygen gas flushing which makes it attractive to use for packaging chickens.
