The machine is designed with multiple weighing heads (e.g., 10, 14, 20, or 24), each containing its own high-precision load cell. More heads provide the computer with more combinations to choose from, increasing both speed and accuracy.
Product is moved from a central hopper to the individual weigh heads via a system of precisely controlled vibrating radial feeders. The vibration amplitude is tailored to each product to ensure a consistent, even flow for weighing.
This is the "brain" of the weigher. In a fraction of a second, the processor reads the weights in all heads, calculates all possible combinations, and selects the one combination that is closest to the target weight without being underweight.
Each "head" typically consists of two buckets. A pool hopper (or feed bucket) holds a charge of product, ready to instantly drop it into the weigh hopper (or weigh bucket) as soon as it has discharged, ensuring the machine never waits for product.
Once the correct combination of buckets is chosen, they all dump simultaneously into a synchronised discharge chute. This gathers the complete portion and funnels it cleanly and quickly into the packaging machine (like a bagger or tray sealer) below, timed perfectly with its cycle.
