Andrew Murphy

Technical Director

Andrew’s technical foundation started early, having spent much of his youth dismantling and rebuilding complex horizontal flow wrappers at our Manchester headquarters.

Formally joining the business in 2018, he has utilised this deep mechanical knowledge to lead our technical division and engineering programmes.

As Technical Director, Andrew oversees machinery commissioning, bespoke engineering adaptations, and our technical support network. His core focus is on line optimisation and helping UK packhouses integrate advanced automation to counter shifting retail demands and rising operational costs. Andrew ensures that every piece of machinery we install is calibrated for maximum uptime and long-term durability.

As Technical Director, I oversee machinery commissioning and bespoke engineering adaptations for production facilities across the UK. Over the years, I have seen first-hand that the most advanced packaging machines are only as profitable as their operational uptime. Planned maintenance is not an optional extra; it is a fundamental requirement to prevent catastrophic breakdowns and costly factory downtime.
In the UK manufacturing sector, scaling up production often reveals the limitations of isolated machinery. When standard, standalone equipment is no longer sufficient to meet your throughput demands, investing in a complete turnkey packaging system becomes an operational necessity.
Technical Director Andrew Murphy explains why bottom-feed (inverted) flow wrap machines are the ideal technical solution for delicate, sticky, or irregular bakery products like iced buns and gluten-free pastries.
Maximising Throughput: How Horizontal Flow Wrappers Are Transforming UK Food Production
Technical Director Andrew Murphy explains how selecting the appropriate sealing technology, whether rotary or box motion, impacts throughput and seal integrity for high-volume bakery lines such as morning rolls and sliced loaves.
Technical Director Andrew Murphy provides an engineering comparison between rotary motion and box motion flow wrappers, helping UK operations managers select the ideal mechanism for their product type and seal integrity goals.
Technical Director Andrew Murphy explores the mechanical advantages of inverted flow wrapping machinery, specifically focusing on how bottom-feed film configurations protect fragile, sticky, or irregularly shaped items.
Flow wrapping is a very efficient packaging method in which a long roll of film is sealed and cut around each individual product — but how can it extend the shelf life of your products? Read on to find out more!
